The Scottsdale Stem Cell Treatment Center offers treatment for erectile dysfunction to the residents of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and the surrounding Arizona communities.

What Is Erectile Dysfunction?

The definition of erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to have or keep an erection in order to participate in sexual intercourse with a partner. ED affects about 33% of men at different times in their lives and can substantially impact their intimate relationships, self-esteem, and quality of life.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

ED is caused by a combination of factors, but the condition could be related to medications, loss of testosterone, and penile nerve damage from surgery or other health problems. ED is most commonly the result of vasculopathy, which is damage to the penile blood vessels. Vasculopathy is usually related to age but is also strongly associated with atherosclerosis, diabetes, cerebrovascular, high cholesterol, hypertension, and peripheral vascular disease.

ED also puts men at a much higher risk of coronary artery disease. Cardiovascular risk screening for ED sufferers should be considered because the symptoms could occur as soon as three years before other coronary artery disease symptoms such as chest pain.

Symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction

ED symptoms may involve the persistence of the following:

  • Reduced sexual drive
  • Trouble achieving an erection
  • Trouble sustaining an erection

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment via Stem Cell Therapy

The only treatment currently available to men with ED who have not had success with medications, injectable agents, or mechanical external vacuum pump devices is the surgical implantation of hydraulic penile prostheses. Such surgeries are rather invasive but largely effective.

However, adipose-derived stem cells indicate great promise in revascularizing ischemic limbs and cardiac tissue as well as other organs that suffer damage from poor blood flow. Treatment does this through the regeneration of small blood vessels, nerves, and smooth muscle. Evidence in animal models shows that adipose-derived stem cells stimulate growth in the lining of small blood vessels (endothelial), thereby improving blood flow in the penis.

Some research has been conducted to revascularize penile arteries in men using stem cells from umbilical cord blood, and the results show promise. Scottsdale Stem Cell Treatment Center has a protocol to deploy high amounts of adipose-derived stem cells into the penile corpora cavernosa, naturally revascularizing the penis and allowing men to recover normal erections.
